This was the first piece that caught my eye in the Esperanza Mayobre: “I cannot connect nostalgia to the current reality” exhibition. What caught my eye was the amount of negative space surrounding the subject. It put a strong emphasis on the shape created by repetitive rectangles. I also really liked the contrast between the bright white shapes on top of the very dark black background. I also think this piece has a strong visual flow, my eye starts the cluster of rectangles which are all in very close proximity to each other and then moves up through the rest of the stacked white lines and shapes.
